Explore one of the paradise isle’s last remaining mangrove forests down the back waters of Madu River which is located a mere 80km from the capital Colombo. This ecological treasure trove is a must-see highlight in the island’s southern coast.

Renowned as the island’s second biggest wetland Madu Ganga (River) is a breathtaking body of water in Balapitiya which contains one of the last remaining pristine mangrove enclaves in the country. Conveniently located within 80km of bustling Colombo this ecologically significant wetland area littered with 36 captivating islets is a venue that is frequented by nature lovers and biologists alike.

River safaris are the most popular method of exploring the Madu Ganga ecological enclosure which is home to a rich biological and natural heritage. Sprawled across an expansive region of about 915 hectares, with 770 hectares covered in water, Madu Ganga river cruises typically set off from the Balapitiya pier on a magical journey that is a visual treat as well as a welcome break from the hubbub of the city.

Visitors can take in the breathtaking sights of the floating islands and idyllic mangroves along the Madu Ganga estuary which is home to a complex network of wetland ecosystems. Believed to be inhabited by over 300 plant varieties of 95 genera and an impressive collection of more than 248 vertebrate animal species the wetlands also contain vibrant varieties of flora and fauna. Littered with 115 species of birds the wetlands are also a favorite haunt for bird watchers and tourists with an appreciation for the winged beauties.

The mangrove forest itself serves as a biological barricade that protects a large variety of aquatic animals and plants. Providing a sanctuary and a cozy environment conducive to the growth of fish, crabs, shrimps and invertebrates the ecologically friendly ecosystem inherent to Madu Ganga is created by freshwater mixing with the sea water coming in with the low tide during the evening.

Tourists can also tour the islets on the river route which produce aromatic cinnamon oil and other cinnamon products for which Sri Lanka is renowned. Visitors can get an in-depth look into the process of cultivating and preparing the spices while also learning about other local enterprises in the Ma Duwa village which houses sand mines, prawn farms and traditional blacksmiths.

Travellers in search of Sri Lanka boutique hotels down south should look no further than the Saman Villas Bentota. As an award-wining establishment set up in 1995, the first deluxe boutique hotel in the island is a luxury hotel Sri Lanka ranks among its top accommodation providers.

An attraction that can be enjoyed by the entire family, the Bangkok Planetarium offers visitors a chance to reach for the stars! The planetarium itself is part of the Science Center for Education that is home to its own aquarium, interactive and educational displays for children as well as various other exhibits including those related to information technology and the natural world we live in.

The oldest of its kind in the city, the Bangkok Planetarium gives those interested in space exploration a chance to learn about the history of travel in outer space as well as experience various other aspects concerning astronomy, the solar system and the planets that call it home.

Launched in 1964, the Bangkok Planetarium has an approximately 13 meter high dome that spans roughly around 20 meters. With a seating capacity of 450 people, the domed theater within the building makes use of a Mark IV Zeiss projector to provide audiences with a visual journey through space.

Manufactured by the famed Carl Zeiss Company, the Mark IV Zeiss projector used in the Bangkok Planetarium was developed in Oberkochen in West Germany and was the first of its kind in the region when it was installed. The projector still continues to captivate audiences and offers an entertaining and educational experience for young and old alike.

Exploring the far reaches of space is not something one would associate with a trip to Bangkok, but the Bangkok Planetarium gives one a chance to do just that. With various other exhibits and interactive elements also on hand both at the planetarium and at the Science Center for Education which it is a part of, this attraction is well worth a visit for the family.

Choosing Bangkok Luxury Service Apartments provide visitors with a great home away from home experience in this bustling city. Selected Bangkok Serviced Suites also come with their own kitchenettes and are ideal for those wanting to cook their own meals when on holiday. One such luxurious accommodation option is the Anantara Baan Rajprasong, Bangkok which offers guests a spacious and tranquil living space which to call home. Guests also have access to a variety of modern amenities to help one truly unwind including an infinity pool and laidback dining options.

Encompassing some of the globe’s most spectacular natural wonders such as limestone hills and sea coves these lush landscapes flanked by verdant forests offer nature lovers a personal encounter with the pristine natural world of southern Thailand.
With the aid and equipment supplied by innumerable tour operators in Krabi visitors can choose from a verity of canoeing packages to explore the environs. From one day trips, to more compact half day excursions, guests are likely to find a tour that suits their group and needs. Most trips set off from Ao Nang Beach which is a short boat ride away from Railay Beach and is also a popular pick up point for most operators. Local guides also come along for the ride with useful tips and know how on the landscapes in the itinerary.

A one day canoeing trip in Krabi will typically start with kayaking along Ban Bor Thor around 9am which will be followed by a relaxing half hour spent sipping tea or coffee before setting off from the shores of the bay once more. Concise lessons on paddling and navigating the environment are given by experienced pros before guests start to traverse through the labyrinth of mangrove jungles in the area.

After a break for lunch on the white, sandy beach kayaking along the bay continues with a variety of topographical anomalies on offer. These include wading through sea caves and encountering natural wildlife while ancient cave paintings are also a highlight on the route. After returning to Ban Bor Thor beach guests will have the unique opportunity of swimming in the Tha Pom freshwater pool before heading back to Ao Nang.

The daytrip canoe tour of Krabi Klong Talen is also popular with seasoned visitors as this excursion includes exploration of the 500 feet long tunnel underneath a rock mountain as well as caves glimmering with stalagmites and stalactites. A series of rock gardens are also a key feature of this trip which takes kayakers through several hongs laden with mangroves.

For those nature lovers, joining in the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project is an educative experience and a chance to contribute to preserving the environment and wildlife. Established in 1992, this project is a research division which belongs to The Wild Animal Rescue Foundation of Thailand.

The main goal of this project is to protect gibbons and their natural habitat through education and rehabilitation. The rehabilitation location is situated in the Khao Pra Theaw Non-Hunting Area near Bang Pae Waterfall in Phuket, Thailand. This program aims to prevent deforestation and poaching by gaining support and aiding the preservation movement in the country and it attracts a lot of tourists, international volunteers and students. It is funded by public donations and volunteer programs from philanthropic organizations.

Gibbons are relatively small apes with a lifespan of over 30 years and inhabits the lowland rainforest’s upper canopy. They are known to have a special swinging movement named ‘brachiation’. Other unique feature of the gibbon is their unique territorial songs. These songs are quite loud and can be heard from a long distance in the rainforest. Their food consists of insects, leaves, fruits and flowers. This animal is threatened mainly through the destruction of the rainforests as it is their habitat. However, gibbons are also killed for their meat, pet trade and medicine. The nine species found in South East Asia are present in CITES, a special convention focussing on the international trade of endangered species like these. Though it has long been prohibited to steal gibbons from their habitat since the year 1992, this still continues unfortunately. The volunteers of this program contribute by spending a few days in the forest to observe the gibbons. These observations continue throughout the day and data is recorded timely according to their behaviour and positions in the forest.

Stay at a beautiful Phuket resort and enjoy the breathtaking natural beauty of your surroundings. You can experience the serene comfort of the Phuket villas in the amazing Anantara Phuket. Letting you experience the best of hospitality and luxury that it has to offer, a stay at this exceptional resort will leave you pleasantly impressed.

Fishing has been a traditional livelihood in Thailand, due to the country’s expansive coastline and also due to the extensive use of seafood in Thai cuisine. On the island of Phuket, fishing used to be the dominant occupation prior to the influx of tourists to its white sandy beaches. Thus it is appropriate that a marriage between these two occupations is one of the most popular activities among tourists. Fishing tours in Phuket enables visitors to appreciate the life of an average fisherman, which is usually concealed behind the windows of the holiday resorts that provide accommodation. Secondly, it also provides the same adrenaline rush that any sea journey is associated with. The beautiful blue water, rimmed by the picture post card beaches are a wonderful backdrop for a fishing adventure.

Located on the south western coast of Thailand, the ocean of Phuket is famous for its bounty of various different types of fish. Among the species seen here are Marlin, King Mackerel, Tuna, Sailfish and even the elusive Dolphin. An excursion out to the sea can be booked at some of the establishments offering fishing trips, usually this includes pick-up from the hotel, a packed lunch, fishing gear and heaps of excitement!

The type of excursion can be chosen by the tourist, the most popular being a daytrip which allows one to return to shore around dusk. The more adventurous choose to go night fishing as this allows one to experience a technique known as bottom fishing. The species of fish caught is different and among among them are Snapper, Grouper and Barracuda. Make sure to get some rest prior to this trip, as the return to the hotel is usually in the wee hours of the morning.

Special packages can be arranged on request such as sailing out over the island of Racha Noi into deeper waters to have a crack at the big fish such as tuna and Wahoo. Fishing excursions are just one of the many activities that can be enjoyed by guests staying at a Phuket resort .The best place to stay to experience the offshore life is at one of the many Phuket villas such as the Anantara Phuket, Thailand.

Considered as the first glamorous getaway of Thailand, Hua Hin welcomes visitors to a delightful holiday experience. The home of the popular landmark Phra Ratchawang Klai Kangwon Palace which was constructed by an Italian architect, Hua Hin is the most ancient and traditional resort in Thailand. In addition to stretches of pristine beaches, the region boasts the highest density of world-class golf courses. Combining the allure of a charming and fascinating fishing port with the appeal of a modern holiday destination, the region is preferred by many holidaying travellers as an ideal vacation spot.

Primarily a beach resort, the town is home to several historic temples as palaces located amid beautiful scenery. The natural splendour abundant in the area including swamps, stunning waterfalls, national parks, mountains, underwater caves and especially the wildlife, makes it a paradise on earth. In addition to beaches near urbanised areas, the town also boasts secluded beaches favoured by many foreigners.

Hua Hin was given its distinctive character by its royal endorsement. By building the Klai Kangwon Palace in the 1920’s, King Rama VII created a vogue among the high-class society to see Hua Hin as the ideal retreat to escape from the summer heat of Bangkok. Even at present, it is the summer palace of the Royal Family.

Among the many attractions in this charming city are an arts and crafts centre, Khao Takiap, Koh Singto, Khao Tao, Sam Roi Yot National Park, Khao Chong Krachok and Khao Hin Thoen Stone Park.

After travelling along a highway and turning right, one can reach the Khao Hin Thoen Stone Park located to the west of the town. The stone park contains large stones and wide rocky fields that can be reached after strolling along the narrow paths. These rocky fields are located on a mountain top facing breathtaking scenery of the city and the blue sea.

The avid traveller in search of fine Hua Hin luxury hotels will be pleased to find Anantara Hua Hin, Thailand. Granting you the ultimate luxury Thailand holiday experience, it boasts a spa offering revitalizing Thai massages amid stunning gardens. Located within easy access of many attractions, the hotel is a gem among Hua Hin hotels .

Flowing down across the border of Burma and Thailand, Mae Kok River passes the districts of Mae Chan, Mueang Chiang Rai, Wiang Chai and Chiang Saen. In a world with few opportunities to enjoy an eventful yet pleasant cruise along a famous river at a reasonable price, Chiang Rai boasts the Mae Kok River Cruise offered at an inexpensive price. The Thaton-Chiang Rai boat service run by Chiang Rai’s Mae Kok Boat Service Company offers trips that last for nearly three hours packed with an abundance of captivating sights.

Having originated in this location due to the existence of the river which was the main trade artery between Chiang Rai and the Thaton-Fang, the Thaton boat service currently runs primarily for the passengers. An ideal way to behold the backwoods of Chiang Rai Province, the boat ride departs from the dock in Thaton.

An exciting activity to indulge in whilst visiting Northern Thailand, the boat ride progresses through portions of dense jungle and one will see hill-tribe villages on the banks at occasional intervals. It is crucial to keep in mind that during and right after the rainy season, the river is deep and some parts of it become rapids which must be traversed only by people with skill.

The river consists of hundreds of miniature islets which are widely visited by trekkers taking boat trips from Thaton. A village named Karen, where locals raise elephants to use them in their daily work is located between Thaton and Chiang Rai. Those in a boat travelling along the Mae Kok River can easily see this village, and if it is in the late afternoon they may also get to see the elephants taking baths in the river.

In addition to these boat rides, charter boat trips, rafting trips, overnight camping and hiking trips are also available for the eager tourists.

Discerning travellers to this area in search of Golden Triangle hotels will be delighted to discover the exemplary Anantara Golden Triangle, Thailand. Housing elegantly furnished rooms and suites with alluring décor amid spectacular vistas, the hotel is a standout among all Chiang Rai resorts ensuring its guests an unforgettable stay.
